Metaverse
Piptle Agency recognises the rapidly growing digital industry, and the new and exciting opportunities that come from our planned integration into the Metaverse. The Metaverse is a giant network of virtual worlds focussed on social connection – much like you see in the movies, only – in recent history, with technologies like Virtual, and Augmented Reality: it is becoming more of a reality every single day.
Where did the Metaverse come from?
The term “metaverse” can be traced back to Neal Stephenson’s dystopic cyberpunk novel Snow Crash from 1992, while many see a more recent inspiration in Earnest Cline’s 2011 novel Ready Player One’s fascinating web of experiences. The metaverse, on the other hand, is far from science fiction. It isn’t even a brand new concept.
Online communities have existed since at least the mid-1980s, and chatrooms, AOL instant messaging, and the first social media sites flourished in the 1990s. In the early 2000s, the game World of Warcraft created a lasting social scene for millions of people, and communities have sprung up inside and outside of the game.
Today, logging onto Fortnite, joining a chat with peers on a console platform, and launching into a game with them is just as social an experience as most other physical interactions, especially for younger generations.
